Afraid of Flying.. any help - seriously! (Wings Talk Post)
Seriously, mintbbb, I have the same fear. And it's not a post-9/11 thing either...I just don't like the idea of not being in control. The funny thing is if I were flying the plane, I'd probably be OK with flying. I just don't like trusting someone else to make sure I don't wind up as a charcoal briquette on the ground.

Anyways, back to topic. I would HIGHLY advise you to visit your doctor and explain your fears, then have the doctor write you a prescription for some Xanax. That stuff is amazing. It's an anti-anxiety drug that will definitely help you with flying. You'll need 4; two for the trip there and two for the trip back. (Actually, you might need more like 8, seeing as it's an international flight) Take one when you get to the gate, take another once you get on the plane, and then 1 every x hours after that. I had to fly to Chicago for a computer security conference one year and slept the whole time there, but not on the way back. But even then, I was looking out the window at the ground, thinking very calmly, "Wow. We're really high up. Ok." I won't fly without it now.

I for one am glad it didn't get passed. I have no sympathy for the banks and lenders that took advantage of homeowners, for the construction business that didn't have the foresight to build according to their budgets, or the the families who over-extended their credit and whose homes are being repossessed when they KNEW they couldn't afford it to begin with.

Why should we bail them out of their own mess? So they can recover and just do it again next time? This is just like the .com bust in 2000. Let's shake the tree and get rid of the loose stuff.

George Peterson, Ed Rooney And The Dead Grandmother
I have a theory about John Hughes. Initially he started with the teen comedies like Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, et al. Then he slowly started maturing into stuff like Some Kind of Wonderful, She's Having a Baby, etc. But those movies really didn't make it all that big, so he went the other direction and began to regress. Hence, Home Alone, Curly Sue, Baby's Day Out.

Once he hit the sperm and the egg, I think he got confused and just gave up after that.

It's bad enough that the news isn't the news anymore (and by that I mean, told to us with impartiality) but can we stop with the quick edits and splices? While I hold true the belief that what this report stated was accurate, it certainly doesn't help it's cause by interjecting insert edits throughout the report that could be interpreted as trickery by people who don't share the same opinion.
